Air quality in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv has fallen to an ‘unhealthy level’

Residents of kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, have been asked not to open their windows or leave their homes unnecessarily. The advisory came into effect when air quality in the Ukrainian capital fell to an “unhealthy level”.

The Kyiv Independent reported that Air Quality Index reports from March 19 indicate that the concentration of pollutants in Kyiv is currently 27.8 times higher than the World Health Organization’s annual guideline value for air quality.

Media organization NEXTA said: “Our subscribers report that there is a lot of smoke in Kyiv; people cannot breathe properly.

“The air quality index has dropped significantly in almost all districts.”

Due to the smoke in the air, the city administration asked people not to open their windows or leave their homes unnecessarily. Meanwhile, the mayor’s office stressed that the air quality is within standards and the smoke is the result of a change in weather conditions, NEXTA said.

kyiv has witnessed several explosions and airstrikes since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. Air quality has dropped significantly in almost all districts, NEXTA reported.

Air quality in kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, has returned to normal

The Ukrainian News Agency reports that Kyiv City State Administration said that air conditioning in Kyiv has returned to normal.

“Monitoring sensors show that the air conditioning in Kyiv has returned to normal. The danger having passed, the preliminary recommendations are canceled. Follow the messages of the city authorities and take care of yourself. The press service of the administration of State of the city of Kyiv quoted the head of the department of ecology and natural resources, Oleksandr Voznyi, as he said.

Earlier in kyiv there was an excessive concentration of dust in the air.

The deterioration in air quality was due to the fires in the vicinity of the capital. Especially in Hostomel, Bucha, fires in industrial plants and the movement of air masses from ignition sources and low wind speeds.

At 1:00 p.m., it is reported that on Saturday, March 19, light smoke was observed in Kyiv.
