News from Ukraine: UK warned Putin was plotting ‘something absolutely atrocious’ | World | New

Vladimir Putin is planning ‘something absolutely atrocious’, a Ukrainian MP has said – warning Britain, led by new Prime Minister Liz Truss, to ‘prepare for another crazy move’. Congresswoman Lesia Vasylenko said the takeover of Izium was a “huge strategic gain”, militarily speaking.

She told Sky News: “Ukraine is moving forward confidently in the northeast and southeast of the country as well. We are moving forward for ourselves, but also to bring a long-standing peace to the continent.”

However, when asked what she thought Mr Putin might do next, she replied: “Nobody can be in the mind of this power-mad leader.

“Anyway, we have to prepare for it – we have to prepare for it as Ukrainians, you have to prepare for it in the UK. And in fact, people all over the world have to be prepared for what something absolutely awful, another mad move, can happen at any time.

Ms Vasylenko added: “For that, Ukrainians must have the weapons to protect themselves, the ammunition in the quantity necessary to protect themselves. And the West must be ready to apply all the sanctions in the book against Russia.”

To illustrate his point, Putin, speaking after a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in the Uzbek city of Samarkand, said: “kyiv authorities announced that they had launched and were carrying out a counter- active offense. Well, let’s see how it develops, how it ends.
