Ukrainian news: MP asks his allies “help us save ourselves”

OTTAWA-

A Ukrainian MP is begging the world to equip her country with weapons, air force protection systems and long-range missiles.

“What else needs to happen for us to get what we need to protect ourselves from Russia?” Ukrainian MP and Holos party leader Kira Rudik asked on CTV News Channel’s Power Play on Tuesday. Rudik spoke with host Mike Le Couteur from kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that since October 10, Russian strikes had destroyed 30% of Ukraine’s power plants. Cities and towns across the country are experiencing blackouts, limited electricity and, in some cases, no water.

“There’s absolutely nothing you can do against a huge piece of metal that shoots out of the air to kill you and your loved ones,” Rudik said. She told Le Couteur that Ukraine was able to intercept half of the Russian drones thanks to the protection systems currently in place in the country.

“Imagine what we could do with the sophisticated systems that would be in place,” Rudik said.

Increasingly moved, she called on Ukraine’s allies to “help save us”.
