Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Nancy Pelosi address Ukraine summit

Presidents and MPs from some 40 countries gathered in the Croatian capital Zagreb on Tuesday to condemn Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The Crimea Platform, a parliamentary summit that brought together lawmakers from EU and NATO countries, acts as a concerted effort to end the annexation of Crimea and other occupied parts of Ukraine by Russia in 2014.

Co-hosted by the Speakers of the Ukrainian and Croatian Parliaments, the summit was delivered by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi condemned Putin’s “new horror campaign” targeting Ukrainian civilians that goes “outside the circle of civilized human behavior”.

“Putin’s latest tactic is to escalate a war he started and is losing. We all pledge here to stand with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for recognizing their courage, as well as the Crimea and other territories he tried to illegally annex across the country, until victory was won,” Pelosi added.

Speaking via video link, President Zelenskyy urged Crimea to return to Ukrainian control.

“The potential for Russian aggression will be completely wiped out when the Ukrainian flag returns to its rightful place in Crimean towns and villages,” he said.
